Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Math and Science to 20 wonderful and unique individuals. My students come from all over the world and have a lot to offer in our classroom. I am the Special Education teacher in my co-teach classroom. My school is a Title I school, which means that most of our students come from a low-socioecomonic household and all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
My students still come to school with a big smile from cheek to cheek even though they might not have all the tools to learn.
I want to try my best to ensure they have everything they need to get the best learning experiences they possibly can.
Unfortunately, Hurricane Harvey hit the surrounding areas of my school. Many of my students homes were and are still affected by this catastrophe. I want my students to feel safe and at home in the classroom.
My students and I would be appreciative and grateful for whatever we receive!
My Project
Since our school is a worksheet free school, the laminating sheets will be used to create Math workstations in which students will be able to wipe and erase to demonstrate what they have learned. The various Math materials such as, the measurement kit, counting rockets, and more will help to teach my students math concepts in a fun and exciting way.
With the flexible seating options (wobble cushions) I will be able to create a learning environment in which students feel comfortable and at ease while they are preparing to become the leaders of tomorrow.
In my co-teach classroom, I have 5 special needs kids who need sensory detail in various forms throughout the day. Having access to the wobbly cushion chairs will help to keep them focused and engaged.
Many of my kindergarten students bring unhealthy snacks to school such as, hot cheetos, soda, candy, chocolate, and sugary juices. As a teacher, it is my duty to ensure that students are not eating snacks full of sugar and fat while they are with me, which is why I am requesting healthier snack options. Our lunch time is earlier in the day, so in the afternoon my students are not motivated to work and are lacking energy. Having access to healthy snacks such as, organic cheddar bunnies, granola bars, fruit snacks, and more they will be able to keep their brains nourished and ready to go in the afternoon as well!
