Materials Needed for Engaging Chemistry Demonstrations
My students need chemistry demonstration materials to see science in action. These include: the nylon rope trick kit, the chemiluminescence kit, paper, markers and other lab supplies.
Chemistry Class. These words either invoke fond memories or fear. I would like to give my students a joyful high school science experience through the use of demonstrations. Mini teacher-led experiments will not only highlight chemical concepts and align with the Common Core, but will also be fun!
My students are extremely diverse from ethnicity to learning styles.
They are creative in the arts as well as academically focused. They can either move on to attend conservatories or liberal arts colleges. They come from privileged or underprivileged homes. Therefore, in order to differentiate instruction for a shared path to success, and to prepare them for college, I must utilize different methods of presenting difficult chemistry topics.
My Project
I plan on conducting two separate chemistry demonstrations for all of my chemistry classes. The first demo involves chemiluminescence. This will highlight the topics of electron orbitals, atomic emission spectra, atoms in the ground and excited states, energy, the periodic table, and atomic models. The second demo involves creating the solid organic polymer of nylon by mixing two organic liquids together. This will highlight the topics of organic compounds, organic chemical reactions, properties of matter, energy, and states of matter.
I will use the copy paper to print the demo information and follow-up question worksheets, the red pens to grade these worksheets, the correction tape to fix any grading errors, the dry erase markers to write notes on the demo on the class whiteboard, and the crate cart to carry all demo materials to my different classrooms.
By choosing to donate to my project today you are supporting the advancement of science education in America by providing me with the tools to ignite my students' curiosity in chemistry.
It is moments such as these simple demonstrations which can determine if a child will develop a true love for science and discovery. Thank you so much for your encouragement and support.
