First graders are like sponges and absorb everything you teach them. I love how energetic they are when you present new activities to them. Their eyes light up and their smile gets bigger and bigger, and you know you've made a connection.
Our school is located in the heart of rural Appalachia in South Eastern Kentucky.
Many students are in the backpack food program, and 100% of our students receive free lunch. Being from a low socioeconomic background and area doesn't stop them from learning, it just takes place a little differently. Working in small groups allows students to work on tasks on their own individual level and be successful. I have future teachers, nurses, doctors, and leaders in my classroom, and I want to show them they can do anything!
My Project
My students are in need of supplemental resources to use during small groups and during online instruction. Let's face it, it's just down right hard not having my students in the classroom full time.
We haven't made it back to the classroom at 100%, but we are able to work with a few students while being socially distanced.
They will also be used during online zooms to help increase student knowledge. The 180 Days of Math and Social Studies resources can be used with both groups and the Power Pens can be used when I get to work with a small group of students. They will love using those pens!
