Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The two schools I serve are Title I schools in a large, urban district. My students, who range from preschool to fifth grade, receive special education services and present with a range of disabilities including learning disabilities, Down Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, language impairments, articulation and phonological disorders, pragmatic deficits, and fluency disorders. These students struggle to communicate effectively with their teachers and peers in the school setting.
Despite the difficulties they face, both in and out of the classroom, my students are kind, funny, and motivated kids.
My Project
Every student I work with has individualized goals and objectives based on their needs. Materials such as binders, dividers, sheet protectors, and hanging folders help me keep their documentation and materials organized. This way, I never have to waste time during their session finding anything.
These materials matter!
I'm also requesting books, such as "Brown Bear" and "Where's Spot?" These books are interactive and repetitive, which encourages students who are minimally verbal to join in and fill in the familiar words.
For some of my more advanced students, I've requested a game that will help enhance their vocabulary while having a great time!
