I am a special education teacher and teach 2nd-5th grades students with disabilities in the areas of math, reading and social skills. I serve a diverse population and many of our families struggle to keep their child's basic needs met. More than half of our student population receives free lunch.
These students require intensive support in special education to learn basic literacy skills, reading fluency and comprehension.
They are able to be most successful with their learning when given fun, engaging activities.
My Project
These materials will give my students more resources and activities that will enhance their reading skills in a hands-on, interactive way.
My students benefit from structure, flexible seating and hands on activities which is why these resources will enhance the learning environment of my classroom.
My students need intense intervention in basic reading skills, which is why the phonics games would motivate them to learn in a fun way. My students love to be read to and have requested the book, "How to be Cool in the Third Grade." Additionally, my students require a structured schedule, which is why a visual timer would help with on task behavior and behavior management.
