I work with a wonderful group of children with various special education needs (I'm specifically working with them on speech and language goals) in a grades 9-12 in St. Paul, MN. I previously worked with elementary and middle school-aged children and this year will be moving to a high school in the same district. My speech/language students are now older than I previously had on my caseload and my practice with them would benefit from having supplies and books to use that better match their age and interests for speech sessions. Having a better variety of books will help engage and motivate students of all ages.
My students are all working on speech and/or language skills.
Some are working on articulation goals, others on expressive or receptive language goals. Many of my students this year communicate with the use of augmentative or alternative communication methods or devices. I want to be able to help them grow and thrive with their communication in any and all forms. All of these students have different interests and abilities and it is so important to have materials that will help each of them learn.
My Project
With these office supplies and fun books and materials for my students, I'll be able to increase engagement and develop fun new therapy materials. The laminator and velcro will allow me to make some fun new activities for the students that are reusable and engaging.
Engagement and buy-in from the students is key to making progress.
New supplies are so important in keeping my students interested in learning and in helping them to make progress. Many of my students have multiple developmental disorders and need a variety of materials available to them in order to find and hold their attention.
