I teach in a Title I school in a local urban neighborhood. I teach 7th grade mathematics. Many of my students are English Learners (ELs) with English Language Development (ELD) levels ranging from one through five. These learners speaks the following native languages: Spanish, Vietnamese, and Haitian Creole.
I have students in my classroom who are on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
I have to differentiate my mathematics lessons to meet students modifications, accommodations, and goals as outlined on their IEPs.
My Project
This project will help the basic supplies needed for mathematics class. Our students need calculators in order to determine answers to middle school mathematics problem accurately and effectively.
Rulers and protractors will help my students with drawing straight lines and determine angle measurements.
Graph paper will help my students to draw shapes and to plot linear equations.
These tools are necessary for all of my students to have in order to meet the state math standards as well as students' goals as outlined in their IEPs. These will also support students' accommodations and modifications in their IEPs. Currently, I do not have enough of these tools for my students.
