Do you remember your kindergarten teacher? Learning begins in kindergarten and it is one of the most important years in a child's life.
I have 25 amazing kindergartners who come to school eager to learn every day.
Each child is a unique individual with unique experiences. Several of my students enter kindergarten as their first school experience so it is important to make it a fun and enriching experience for all students. Our school is located in a welcoming community in Seattle. We do not get the resources that many schools receive due to our district being so big.
My Project
With the new implementation of Common Core State Standards, kindergarteners are now required to understand place value blocks. We currently do not have any place value blocks in our classroom so I am requesting for some so students can have hands-on learning with a standard that may be difficult for them. Having a set for each student, they will be able to manipulate with place value blocks. This is a difficult standard for kindergarteners so it is important that they have their own materials.
I am also requesting for a Barnes and Noble Nook eReader for my students. We do not have any working student's computer in our classroom so it is important that I provide them with other technology to use to learn math and reading. The eReader will allow students the opportunity to listen books and play interactive math and literacy games.
With the lack of technology and math manipulatives currently in our classroom, these materials will provide them with high quality resources.
All students should have an equal opportunity to be successful and it is important that teachers have all the resources that they need to meet the diverse learners in their classroom.
