I have a very mixed group of students. They range in language and culture and academic levels. They also come from a variety of different family situations and cultures and yet each one wants to know they are important and cared about.
I love seeing their face when they know someone from their country is being featured in a story or song.
Their eyes light up and it's almost as if they were sitting on my lap listening intently.
Each child deserves every chance to succeed and these materials will help us give that to them.
I foresee myself using these multicultural stories after lunch for a special read-aloud. It will be a chance for us to turn down the lights, relax, and learn about where each of us comes from that makes us unique. I would love to have the child also share what they remember about their special place. I plan to follow up the book with an opportunity to do informational writing about what we learned. It would be an adventure to compare and contrast the different places remembering and examining more deeply what we've learned.
These materials will help relieve the shortages caused by COVID-19 in my classroom. They will also promote acceptance and kindness towards each child.
These students deserve every chance to succeed and your donation will be greatly appreciated.
It's amazing the effort they are putting forth and together we can and will succeed.
These phonics readers will give them structured books they can learn to read and really enjoy reading. The multicultural books will stretch their minds and help each child see what is special about the others. My goal is to foster love, respect and an inclusive environment where every child feels valued and never left out or judged. I want to use these books throughout the year and refer back to them too so the messaged taught will stick with them throughout their lives.
