Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Remember the first time you had to get up in front of a group and give a speech or perform a monologue? Theater can be intimidating for even the most confident young person but it can be the key to success both in the classroom and beyond!
This fall will be the first time my students will be taking a theater class!
As a teacher, I am thrilled for them but as a student, I understand how nerve wracking it may be.
One of my goals is to provide insight into multiple elements of theater and support them as they explore the components they connect to the most. Maybe it is acting or directing? Or maybe it is behind the scenes as a designer, stage manager, or dramaturge.
My students attend a high school that focuses on technology and on the surface, it may not seem there is a connection between technology and the arts however, engagement in the performing arts offers students a cache of skills that will serve them through high school and beyond.
My Project
The resources from this grant include a collection of one act plays and monologue collections as well as nonfiction resources for theatrical design (sets, costumes, lights, and sound). These materials will allow students to explore diverse characters as well as experiment with movement, improvisation, and creation through collaboration with their peers.
I have tried to choose an assortment of collections that students can explore and hopefully find a voice they can experiment with or a design field that they want to use to help create the world of the play.
With your help, students can explore, collaborate and create!
Through participation in this semester long class students will gain experience as well as confidence both inside and out of the theater classroom that will serve them long after the semester is over.
