Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The process of selecting work from different math learning outcomes and reviewing their progress helps students see where they have been successful and where they still need to channel their efforts to grow. This group of 7TH Grade mathematicians have shown me the definition of resilience. They have faced so many challenges in math with remote learning during the Covid Pandemic and they are still curious and eager to give math class a chance.
In my Growth Mindset Math class they are organizing their assignments into a Mastery Portfolio to reflect on their learning of specific math concepts and making connections between the different standards in 7th grade math.
I am teaching them the importance of developing the skills to learn over the grades by using the requested binders, sleeve protectors, and sketch paper for their portfolios to conference with them about their progress and determine the appropriate grade given rigorous standards.
The message is that no matter where your learning is right now, you can always improve and giving them skills to seek resources and apply their strengths to their growth will help them be lifelong learners.
