Mrs. Michael from Cordova TN is requesting other through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a place to sit and work, learn, and create. These tables would provide them with the space to do that, as well as allow them to develop social skills.

I made the choice this school year to make the incredible change from the school Librarian to PreK teacher. I have 20 amazing PreK students. I have had to beg and borrow (I haven't started stealing, yet) to get what is needed to help my students be the masterpieces I know they are.
My PreK class is located in a Title 1 school.
My masterpieces are in a Head Start program, which is an income and ability-based funding program for PreK. I have always heard that PreK teachers (especially under the Head Start umbrella) are given everything their students could need or want. This has not been my experience. Most people who come into my room are surprised by the varying ability, maturity, and behavior levels that my 20 students display (as is the case in most classrooms, but I have some extreme distances in these levels). Many of my students have never been in daycare/preschool and are still working to learn how to follow the rules and procedures of a school. Our classroom is a standard 1st-4th grade classroom. It was never intended to be a PreK classroom (there is no sink, built-in carpet, storage closet, or additional storage). My assistant and I have been doing the best with what we have been provided but we feel that our students deserve and need more.
Several of my masterpieces have behavioral issues. They are trying to figure out how to interact with each other and many of them have spatial issues with these interactions. These tables would provide each student with the chance to have their own, clearly identified space in which they could complete projects and work, eat their breakfast and snack, and do any other tasks that require a table. They would be able to interact with their classmates while having an understanding as to how much space they need to have between themselves and the person sitting near them. Many of my behavior issues come from the students having no space of their own at the table. The tight fit of the seating causes temptations to play with and touch those around them. These tables would not only provide my students a place to work, learn and create, they would also help with behavior modification and social skills.
This is the first time that many of my kids are coming to school.
I want them to have the ability to learn in a comfortable environment. I want to provide them with every opportunity that I can to help them succeed. I am preparing my students to be in someone else's Kindergarten class next school year. I want them to not only be prepared for Kindergarten, I want them to be the masterpieces that I know they are.
