"The arts are an essential element of education, like reading, writing, and arithmetic ....music, dance, painting, and theater are all keys that unlock profound human understanding and accomplishment."
-William Bennett (Former US Secretary of Education)
Our school is located in a very small community in Louisiana.
It is a Title I school. Each student learns differently and art will give them all an opportunity to shine. I would like to offer them an inquiry-based art approach by embedding art into reading and science activities, so my students can explore their creativity and critical thinking skills. Children love art and what better way to learn about landscapes, trees and the rainbow of colors nature has to offer than through art. I want them to share their learning with their friends when they finish their projects to nurture their confidence. Whenever children share art the expression on their face is priceless, no matter what their master piece looks like. It inspires them to use the new academic vocabulary naturally and express their knowledge of the new concepts they are learning.
My Project
My students will be able to create masterpieces that are one of a kind. I do not get any money to spend in my classroom for art supplies, books, and etc. These resources like paint, paint brushes, craft materials and art supplies will help tremendously cut the cost of what I pay for out of pocket. I will be able to use these supplies for years to come and they will be greatly appreciated. I would love to incorporate more arts and crafts into our reading and science lessons. I am a visual learner myself. Last year, we made some artwork that related to several stories in our class reader. The students could recall information from their story and portray that in their art.
My Project: My students need these materials in order to get creative with their artistic abilities.
Painting will allow their work to be more vibrant and their personalities will shine through the colors in their art work. Working with a variety of arts and crafts will allow the kids to design beautiful paintings and masterpieces that relate to the literature we read in class.
