My Students
My classroom is constant movement. I serve in an economically diverse area and my 6th grade students are as unique as the backgrounds from which they come! They love to learn and are very hands-on learners, but sometimes need some "outside of the box" resources to learn math.
My students are full of life and laughter.
They are very involved in class and have created a classroom environment that is full of discussion and debate. Our school has an awesome staff, great leadership, and some of the most passionate students in the state!
My Project
The flexible seating options that I am requesting for my classroom were specifically selected for the unique needs of my sixth grade math learners. Our curriculum is heavily inquiry based and involves a lot of group work. Traditional middle school seating with the slide in desks is not conducive to having group discussions. My dream is to have a classroom with a variety of seating options such as coffee tables, bean bag chairs, tall tables, cushions, card tables and stability balls to keep my learners active and make my classroom comfortable for everyone.
This project will allow students to choose a seat that fits their unique needs while learning math in a fun and interactive way.
Math is not usually a students favorite subject, but these flexible seating choices will make math something students can take ownership of and look forward to learning.
