Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I performance improvement school with the majority of our students participating in the free lunch program. For many of my students, school is where they have access to books, supplies, and other resources that support their academic achievements. Many of my students come from homes where their parents are working hard to make ends meet and want their students to be successful in school.
My second graders are inquisitive and love to learn, and they inspire my teaching every day!

Mastering math number concepts and math fluency are the basics in achieving financial literacy.
And when students play games to learn these math basics, then we have a winner! This is what this project aims to do. Will you help us reach our goal?
Having different games that reinforce math skills available in our classroom will provide an alternative way to build financial literacy. The games and resources in this project will give my students many ways to practice math skills while allowing me the opportunity to differentiate for my students as they work with skills as counting, equivalent coin values, sequencing, and patterns, to name a few skills.
These are skills that contribute to achieving different aspects of financial literacy. For example, my students love playing bingo; with this project, I will be able to call out money values while my students need to think and find the coins that combine to make its equivalent value. The Rekenreks class sets and the activity center will help my students with counting and gaining number sense by providing fun, game-like activities.
For students who need help adding or subtracting from a number, the Splash 120 Mat Floor Game will meet their needs. Finally, for my students who have mastered these basic concepts and need a challenge, the Monopoly Deals Game Sets will give them fun opportunities to make decisions about spending money and buying properties while the Rummikub game helps will help my students with sequencing, pattern recognition and planning.
