Help me give my students expert instruction from the biggest names in media and writing. The subscription to Masterclass would provide my students and me the opportunity to get mini-lessons from the movers and shakers in media.
My students are varied, economic and socially, and are both haves and have-nots, but I teach in a district that is barely serving its minority students.
I teach in Stamford to work with kids from all sorts of backgrounds, for I hope to create critical consumers and thoughtful producers of texts.
Many of my students have become educators; many have become change agents in their schools and communities. Some of my students attend Ivy League schools, some smaller liberal arts colleges, some huge state universities. They have become English majors, editors, PR professionals; they have come back with accolades from their professors at their level of knowledge, skill, and exposure to high-level materials and thought. Some own businesses or have found their own path to personal fulfillment in the outdoors and in board rooms.
I have been doubly-blessed to work with students at risk, students who have not lived up to potential, who have not fit in, and helped them find their voice.
My Project
I am requesting a subscription to Masterclass to serve as a way for my students and me to gather information, skills, and tips from the best media makers and writers in our contemporary media landscape.
From news writing to feature and creative writing, photojournalism to adventure photography, documentary film making to screenwriting, a subscription to Masterclass will serve students and my teaching alike in bringing my classes and instructional techniques into the 21st century with tips and strategies from contemporary makers.
Masterclass is a tremendous cross-curricular tool that should be made available to students and teachers alike, and I am requesting this project for that reason.
