Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from Newark, NJ, an urban district that believes all children can learn. My students would much rather be in school but are making the best of the situation at home. Lessons from various platforms such as Flocabulary, ALEKS, Google Classroom, and Nearpod are being assigned via computer to ensure that they continue to work and learn remotely.
Since teaching has been replaced with Webex meetings I am in need of multiple computers; one for active communication with the students and the other to share my screen for them to view the lesson.
Flexibility is necessary for all since instruction has been replaced with Webex meeting. Dual computers will help with remote teaching and ensure that engaging lessons are taking place each day. This year we are not only learning from one another but supporting each other more than ever.
My Project
Math is a subject that is taught best through example and without being in the classroom with my students it is extremely difficult for them to understand the concepts. Chatting back and forth alone doesn't allow me to connect with the class or get into the depth of the lesson; which leaves students very confused.
To learn best students need a Webex meeting that consists of discussions and visuals which teach to multiple modalities; a MacBook would allow me to do that and foster student engagement.
Google Classroom and Nearpod are some platforms I use to get the lessons out to my students but virtual classrooms with a MacBook can provide more engagement with students and foster conceptual learning.
A MacBook would allow me to connect with my students and create the best virtual classrooms. Here I can conduct live lessons, have peer to peer conversations, break out rooms, and ask questions. Since schools are closed, virtual classes are needed to facilitate student learning.
