One, two, three numbers plenty, help my students count to 20.
I teach Special Education for Kindergarten- through Third grade at a Title I school in Louisiana.
I teach resource classes, inclusion classes and academic readiness classes to many different students with varying needs. My student’s exceptionalities include: Developmental Delay, Autism, Emotional Disturbance, Hearing Impaired, as well as, many other learning disabilities and/or health impairments. This year I have had the please of teaching a group of kindergarten students with varying impairments. These students lack the basic prekindergarten skills of oral counting and number recognition. It is my job to remediate these students’ deficits and get them back on track with their peers.
My Project
I would like to provide my students with materials to aide in their understanding of numbers and counting. The “Count With Me Magnetic Books” and the “Match the Number Counting Kits” will provide the students with hands on practice in number recognition and oral counting to the number 20. These materials will be used as a group lesson and as independent practice. The “Numbers and Counting Theme Book Library” includes several fictitious stories on numbers and counting. These stories also focus on the importance of numbers and provide the students with reasoning behind everything we use numbers for on a daily basis. The Numbers Bingo game will provide the students with a fun interactive way to practice their number recognition skills and allow me to assess their knowledge and understanding of what they have learned.
By donating to this project, you will provide my students with the supplies and hands on materials they need to grasp the concept of number recognition and counting.
This is a skill that these children will take with them and use daily in their everyday lives.
