Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are made up of children from throughout the City of Philadelphia from various cultural backgrounds and poverty levels. Our students potential is often overlooked due to the negative experiences they have been affected by; having them in my program for three years gives me opportunity to see the diamond-like qualities that they possess and assist them to shine!
90% of our students pursue college or enter careers in healthcare.
They are part of the career techncial student orgranization of HOSA-Future Health Professionals. The students in vocational programs receive opportunites to network with peers pursing careers in the medical field; they compete in healthcare competitive events and they are exposed to learning along with travel that encourages real life experiences.
Statistics have demonstrated the positive effects of past graduates and college-career success' Students who have participated in the past have returned to share with present students; This opportunity allows our students to see the world, grow and learn all at the same time with lots fun; These precious opportunities allows our students to become sustainable adults in the 21st Century.
My Project
The HOSA students are exposed to real life experiences, and network with peers from all over the world pursuing health careers. Participating in the HOSA Leadership Conference gives them opportunities to travel and see a world that exists outside of their homes.
Financially disadvantaged students who are exposed to negative environments including the opioid epidemic and violence in the neighborhoods.
My goals for them are to have them envision themselves in a beautiful new world out there ready for their discovery. This trip will give them incentive to be successful in high school and through post secondary education.
Teamwork is developed as they travel and continue to learn in our vocational program for three years. Giving the students any and all opportunities that likely they will never have an opportunity to experience is our goal. Knowing that they will never forget and the memories will last a lifetime.
