Mrs. Dahl from Erie PA is requesting lab equipment through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need this electronic balance so that we can precisely measure their projects. In out STEM lab students design and build many structures through engineering design challenges. Currently students are working on a TOWERS!

My students are eager, urban middle school STEM students. I teach in a very diverse school with students who are very passionate about STEM education. The students in my STEM classes are creative and hard working. Most of the students in my classes will be first generation college students and many plan to pursue careers in STEM fields, many of who aspire to be engineers. STEM resources are essential to enhancing these students’ curiosity and creativity. Providing hands-on classroom experiences gives my students the skills needed to be the best in their classes moving forward to high school, college, and beyond.
Students will use this balance to get precise MASS Measurements. In our STEM lab class students complete engineering design challenges. One example of the challenges that we complete is a TOWER building projects. Students follow the engineering design process to learn about towers, design a tower, build and test a tower all before analyzing data and redesigning.
The OHAUS ES Scales electronic balance is needed so that students can collect reliable and precise data.
Students will be using this new balance to measure the mass of TOWERS and other structures built in class. Students will use the mass of the tower to calculate efficiency as they compare the mass of their towers to the mass it will hold.
