Maslow Before Bloom...Meeting Student's Basic Needs

My Project

We run several soft landing groups in the morning to check-in with students to make sure they are prepared to start their day by having their daily needs met. We ask them to complete a check-in to indicate how they slept, if they were able to eat breakfast, how they are doing with self-regulation and if there is anything they want us to share with their teachers.

Our soft landing check-ins have made us realize that most students are in need of something to eat for breakfast, so this snack would help us to meet this basic need.

Breakfast and lunch at our school aren't free, so students will often choose not to eat breakfast or lunch because they don't want to be a financial burden to their family. Having available snacks is very helpful for our students but it can be challenging to keep up because the need at our school is high.
