At my school, the teachers, parents, and students work together to establish the best possible working and learning environment. We feel privileged to be part of a community that comes together to do what is best for kids and to be supported by a PTO that shows up daily to support the work going on in the classroom.
My fourth graders are developing a passion for reading.
Many of my students agree that the best part of the day is when we share books together or when they have time to get quietly lost in their own favorites. It makes me so happy when I see a student grinning over a silly part in a graphic novel or when I hear a soft gasp of surprise as someone turns the page of a suspenseful story. They are connecting with characters and thinking new thoughts. They are doing the important work of becoming life-long readers.
My Project
I recently started teaching a unit on Greek mythology. Like every year, many of my students just can't get enough of it. They love the adventure and excitement! I have a few copies of books that are in high demand, and I would love to expand this part of my library to keep my students motivated and engaged.
"If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales.
If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales." -Albert Einstein
Reading fantasy encourages students' creativity and imagination. These graphic novels challenge students and increase their vocabularies while supporting their comprehension with pictures. I love to see their enthusiasm for reading!
