Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Most of my students are not native English speakers. In fact, some of them are refugees from distant parts of the world. Many of my students have few books, magazines, or other educational materials at home, so it's crucial that they experience every possible advantage at school. I teach 25 students, some of whom are special-needs.
As a teacher at a high-poverty school serving a largely ESL population, I am convinced that my students will excel when provided with quality materials and instruction.
I know that when they are immersed in engaging learning activities, they will thrive!
My Project
My kindergartners will be so excited about our visits from Shoobeeloo Music! The kids will be immersed in learning and FUN! Music classes are definitely great for language, math, and concepts. We will be doing rhymes (language), singing about animals, colors, weather, movements, and many other things (lots of vocabulary).
We'll tell stories through song, and we'll learn musical concepts and how they relate to physical movement or space (high/low, fast/slow, loud/quiet).
We will keep the beat and tap out rhythms which is always mathematical even if we aren't actually saying numbers. We'll do songs in which we count, add or subtract items.
We will follow up these amazing music/movement sessions with creative art/craft activities using paper provided through this grant.
