My kids are absolutely incredible. They come from extremely diverse backgrounds, work so hard in and out of school to prepare for their futures, and love their community. Specifically, the students this project would be helping are in high school and could use more easily-accessible technology in their classrooms.
The students I serve are some of the top-performing students in our state, yet due to allotment of state funding rules, we don't get as much funding as we'd like.
Helping us complete this goal would totally change the types of learning they are able to complete in our upper-level school.
My Project
Earlier this year, I was able to start a small food pantry in our library for students who may have forgotten their lunch, may not have access to a lunch, or who may need food for dinner/the weekend. I could have never expected how well used this pantry would become. I restock the pantry several times a week, and even with an Amazon Wishlist to help support us, it seems we need even more resources to in a place where we can have food for our in-need students.
So many students have thanked me for giving them a safe place to go, where no one has to know they're getting some peanut butter crackers, or a tuna salad kit.
A place where there is no expectation or judgment, and they can truly take what they need. I know there are students who are in-need who have yet to hear about our library pantry, and I'm trying to restock before the winter break for my students. Please help me give them a variety of snacks, meal kits, and treats that they may not otherwise have access to.
