My students need Instant Math games, Hands on Problem Solving, Partner Math Games, journals and activity station so that we can implement Math Workshop in our classroom.
The "Frog-tastic Firsties" are Marvelous Mathematicians! We are currently planning to implement Math Workshop, which allows the students to work at their individual abilities while I work with small groups of students on specific concepts. Currently, we have no Math Center Activities.
The "Frog-tastic Firsties" live in a large, urban area.
The neighborhood is very diverse, which is reflected in our classroom. Five different languages are spoken in the classroom. Many of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch.
The students are enthusiastic learners. First grade is such an exciting year...learning to read, write, and solve problems in Math. The students love to work with partners and in groups. They work very well with each other, displaying responsibility and cooperative problem solving strategies.
My Project
Currently, we have very little Math Center Activities available to us in our classroom. This donation will provide our classroom with many different Math Center Activities. The different learning center activities provide individualized practice in all of the domains for first grade math. They are leveled so that each child can work on activities at his or her ability level.
These resources will provide the students with multi-leveled, hands-on activities during Math Workshop. While I am providing small group or individual instruction, the other students will be able to choose appropriate math activities to enhance their skills.
Our school district is rolling out the new Common Core State Standards. Instant Math games, Hands on Problem Solving, Partner Math Games, journals and activity stations are aligned with the Common Core State Standards, and will help the students meet these standards.
These resources can be used from year to year, so other students will also benefit from your donation.
The "Frog-tastic Firsties" really need activities for Math Workshop.
I do not feel that giving a worksheet so the students can be quiet and busy is the best use of learning time. These activities will impact the entire structure of our Math learning time. We truly appreciate you checking out our request!
