My Students

I teach in a kindergarten classroom in rural North Carolina. My students come from very diverse backgrounds. Most of the students I teach come from low-income homes. Our school nutrition program provides each of our student's free breakfast and lunch.

My students are bright, engaged, creative thinkers who thrive in a school space that allows them to think creatively.

My students are scientists, writers, dreamers, readers, and mathematicians. It is my desire to provide them with the resources they need to be successful in school.

My Project

Kindergarten students learn best with hands on experiences. Using manipulatives makes Math come alive and gives my students a deeper understanding of concepts being taught. My students practice counting, sorting, and patterning daily.

I would like to give my students some exciting new kid friendly counters that will help get them excited and more engaged in their counting, sorting, and patterning practice.

Counting, sorting and patterning helps children understand the nature of mathematics. Not only is sorting and classifying a natural act for children, but children also find it interesting.

Collecting, sorting, classifying, making patterns…these are all great things for children to do because they teach children about relationships and attributes, as well as teach children how rules apply to sets. And, since math is all about rules and systems, lots of practice and exploration in counting, sorting and patterning is a really great thing for those developing minds!
