This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a low income, full inclusion Kindergarten classroom. Many of my students come to school with very little background in education (meaning no preschool or daycare). This means many are unable to identify and write their name, letters, numbers, etc. I also have students who are ESL (English as a second language) in my class. Often times these students are unable to speak any English to start the year. Every year I feel so blessed to watch these darlings grow and learn. Their progress makes my heart happy.
My Project
A wise man once said “Tell me and I’ll forget, show me and I may not remember, involve me and I’ll understand.” This quote truly encapsulates learning in a Kindergarten classroom. My goal is to make as much learning hands on in the classroom as possible. The manipulatives and games will help students in the learning process. My students will use the manipulatives to practice their patterning, sorting, addition, and subtraction skills. Students will learn the appropriate manner in which to use the manipulatives and games during whole group and small group lessons. Students will then get the opportunity to use the manipulatives in small group centers activities.
