Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Wowsa! I would love to be able to share these materials with my students. Let me tell you why. Teaching 2nd grade in a low-income community in east San Jose often times means materials and supplies are lacking. Arts and crafts are frequently cut by budgetary tightening. The supplies I am requesting will bring art back to the classroom in a new and fun way!
Right now we are growing plants and learning about photosynthesis in science. I am requesting materials for all twenty of my 2nd grade students to be able to create collage pots. To decorate these pots, students will need craft supplies like pom-poms, buttons, google eyes and other fun odds and ends. This will tie in a science standard with art. Additionally, since my students are in need of more fine-motor skills practice, I am requesting a set of jumbo pencils. Because displaying their artwork has been a challenge I am also requesting a classroom clothesline, which will be a great way to showcase their work around the room without taking up valuable wall space.
Finally, the last and perhaps most important component I am requesting is the photo plates. These plates will accompany the student art work. Each student will write an "about the artist" narrative to accompany their picture and photograph. This will tie in writing standards with art. My students this year are absolutely darling. I would love to share these experiences with them. Thank you for your consideration of our proposal.
