My Students

My students are amazing ten and eleven year old fifth graders at a school in the suburbs of Los Angeles. They love collaborating with one another, community restorative circles, and project based lessons. The thirty students represent over 16 different cultures and come from a range of socioeconomic backgrounds.

This year we are not only focused on maintaining a strong academic foundation, but also working to develop leadership skills and social-emotional skills in order to prepare the students for middle school.

My Project

In a world of instant gratification, creating art with watercolors will teach my students to slow down, focus, and be intentional. Social-emotional development is a major area of focus for the students this year. Creating art will not only help the students express themselves but also reinforce growth mindset and perseverance.

Watercolors sets will allow students to use their creativity in cross-curricular projects and engage in the curriculum in a more meaningful way.

With watercolor sets students will be able to paint maps of the world instead of labeling a worksheet, or paint different ecosystems instead of coloring them with crayons.
