Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a wonderful elementary school in North Hollywood, CA, with a very diverse student population. I have been a first-grade teacher for the past 20 years, and recently made the move to kindergarten. It is so rewarding to see the excitement and joy in these 5 and 6-year-old faces every morning, waiting to see what the day has in store for them.
I am very excited about my new role as a Kindergarten teacher and know how important it is to help set the foundation and create a lifelong passion for learning that these little ones will carry with them all throughout their academic career.
My Project
Nothing is more important than setting a strong academic foundation in young children. These learning materials will help provide my students with letter and number recognition practice in a number of different ways. With a good foundation of letters and numbers, this will easily transfer into blending words, writing sentences, and addition and subtraction. This project also helps provide a variety of academic conversation starters that are necessary in kindergarten to help get students use to speaking in front of their peers. Many little ones coming to school for the first time are quiet and shy, and these activities can help boost their confidence and help them find their voice.
