My Students

Our 4th - 6th marimba program prides itself in being diversified to meet the needs of our students. The students and I always strive for making each lesson a truly tuneful, artful, beatful, and joyful experience. Every day we make learning target goals from our state music standards to aim for achievement in our academics and behavior.

With a community that heavily supports music in a physical presence but is low socioeconomically, the ability to fund educational music trips fully can be a challenge.

Every child deserves to have a quality music education, and your funding will make that a reality for these dedicated joyful students. Our students meet in three different sections according to grade level two times a week to perform, respond, and create marimba music. We play music that is mainly inspired by the African Shona style branching out at times to include music in the classical, jazz, blues, and rock genres as well.

My Project

Our marimba band program is taking a trip to Central Washington University and to the Seattle World Rhythm Festival in April. This trip would allow students to experience what a college campus is like when studying music. We are also planning a student performance at Central Washington University as well, which gives the students a chance to perform for others who are studying music education and performance in their college studies. By providing this opportunity, it will give students a glimpse of what they can do musically as a possible career opportunity later in life. Afterwards we are planning to experience and perform at the Seattle Center for their annual World Rhythm Festival. Students will have the opportunity as well to be part of drumming and dance lessons for free that are part of the event sponsored by the Seattle World Percussion Society.

Your donations will allow for students to experience what it's like to be on a college campus, travel as an ensemble and perform in new locations, and enrich their musical skills further with experiencing drum and dance lessons.

To do this though, we will need to be able to transport our marimbas. Recently our district truck we use for transporting our marimbas is out of commission for longer trips across state. We are in need of renting a U-Haul truck to transport the marimbas for four days. With your help students will be able to experience this enriching and musical trip we have planned for our program.
