Marvelous Mandalas: Visual Art, Math and Technology!
My students need paint, brushes, paper and basic art supplies to create their mandalas. They need two IPads for research, digital planning of their mandalas and for assessment.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
All students are gifted in their own ways, and teaching math and technology with art gives artistically gifted children a chance to shine. Mandalas are an excellent subject to teach art, math, science, history and technology all in one project!
My students are artistically talented and are in a special program to meet their needs.
They are enthusiastic about all things related to art and are eager to learn. These students are in grades 6-8 and attend a public middle school in a suburban setting in Louisiana.
My Project
Students will explore the mathematics behind mandalas, including but not limited to shapes and symmetry. After examining mandalas across cultures, students will create their own using mathematical concepts and skills.
There is no budget for art supplies in my school district and these requested resources would allow my students the opportunity to paint their mandalas once they have finished designing them. The iPads are needed as we have no classroom computer for them to use. I have discovered several amazing Apps which the students can use to not only design their mandalas but to create a final slide show of their work using their own voices to talk about their processes and what they learned.
With the new Common Core Curriculum in place I am always looking for ways to incorporate the core subjects into my art lessons.
The project is a wonderful and exciting way to achieve that goal.
