Our students are challenged to think differently and problem solve to find a solution. We value that there are different approaches to everyday problems and also that there can be several solutions as well.
Our students are given different type of problems, some solved by deductive reasoning or inductive reasoning and then also logic puzzles.
We hope to engage their creativity and allow them the freedom to design and solve real-world problems from their perspective.
Our students are immersed in project-based learning, they love the opportunity to have student choice and to put their efforts into something meaningful to them.
My Project
Each year we challenge our students to come up with an invention. We brainstorm, research, and make prototypes of our inventions. While we are learning about inventions we also investigate Rube Goldberg simple machines. These materials help us set the stage for their ultimate Rube Goldberg challenge.
Our students will work together in teams to plan and construct a working Rube Goldberg.
Each grade level is given a different Rube Goldberg challenge. The peg board will allow the constructions to have more vertical space and use gravity, pulleys, and ramps to help them achieve their task. They work through a list of requirements, items to use, and end result to accomplish. After many...many trial and error attempts, they are so satisfied to see their Rube work and how each group of students thought differently about how to use the supplies. Students learn perseverance and teamwork.
