Marshall Road STEAM! Watch Our Students Discover & Problem Solve!
My students need these STEM-based items to help them discover, create, build, dismantle, and explore through hands on real world activities! WE need little bits, K'nex and more.
Marshall Road Elementary School (MRES) students and community are very diverse. Based just outside of Washington DC, MRES has a center-based ED (Emotional Disabilities) George Washington University (GW) masters degree program, which is supported by GW students desiring to teach students with disabilities. We have a food program for students who's families need the assistance with donations coming from various community sources. We have a pretty robust Hispanic and Korean community that feeds into our wonderful school giving it such a wonderful, and diverse, feel to it. We have students with multiple disabilities from K-6th grades who could benefit greatly from STEM-related hands on activities.
The STEM students will learn basic electronics, engineering, problem solving, various building techniques, which interconnects with curriculum across multiple content areas.
This STEM program is new to this school and funds are very limited, which is the main reason for this request! Thank You!
My Project
The Makey Makey kits is a 21st century invention kit. Little Bits are electronic building blocks to develop critical thinking & fostering teamwork. Circuit stickers are LED stickers that help kids build electronic circuits without soldering. Sphero is an app controlled robot that can be programmed, so the kids can learn programming skills. Squishy circuits can safely and easily be constructed using conductive and insulating play dough. Snap circuits are modular based and will allow the students make items such as FM radios, voice recorders, alarms, doorbells, and more. K'Nex sets include wheels, gears, pulleys, rods, and K'nex connectors allowing the students design and build unlimited structures. VEX robotics allows students to design and build a robot and learn game-based engineering.
We intend to have a STEAM Night at Marshall Road on October 20th, 2017.
I hope to share all of these educational items with you that night!
