Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Coming from a low income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with many challenges and hardships both inside and outside of the classroom. I serve students that come from low economic backgrounds, where nearly every student is classified as socioeconomically disadvantaged. In addition, we also serve a large number of students learning English.
My students have dealt with such traumatizing experiences in their young lives, and I find it my duty to ensure they have a safe place to learn and better their lives during the school day.
Despite their rough backgrounds, my students have the sweetest hearts. They really enjoy expressing themselves through games, projects and hands-on learning. Although we are a small school, we put a heavy focus on credit recovery. We act as a last step for students to better their grades and better their lives. Our district works diligently to keep our students off the streets and in the classroom, and it is my goal to help them find joy in learning and create a meaningful, successful future for themselves.
My Project
My students need Astrobrights paper, a class set of glue bottles, colorful pens and laminating materials to bring our interactive notebooks to life! We will be using these interactive notebooks on a daily basis, and my students need the materials to help make it happen.
This year we will be working with interactive notebooks in class and we need the basic materials to do so, including a laminator, bright paper, colorful markers and plenty of glue bottles!
My students will be so thrilled to have such a fun and colorful interactive notebook that will help them study for tests using color coding and bright visuals to help them remember what they study!
