This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an enthusiastic group of children who come to school eager to learn each day. With smiles on their faces, they line up each day in the school gymnasium.

School can often be a refuge for my students.

These fifth graders reside in a city which is most often labeled as the poorest and most dangerous place to live in our country. With 100% of the students receiving free breakfast and lunch, school may be the only place they eat during the week.

My Project

We use dry erase markers on a daily basis. In our classroom we have dry erase boards for students to complete math problems and to show answers to the teacher. We also have dry erase sleeves in which papers can be inserted and students can write on the plastic to show their answers. This saves on the amount of copying that needs to be done. Yay, more trees saved!

Dry erase markers are an essential classroom tool.

However, they are fairly expensive and the classroom budget is not very big. I have asked for parents to donate them, but it is not possible for some of our families to part with the money when getting dinner on the table is the main concern.
