This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My curious, motivated, and inspiring students are eager to learn! My students are 6 and 7-year-olds and our school is located in a less affluent corner of a city that has been the site of both peaceful protests as well as frightening and dangerous events over the past few months. We're currently in the full Distance Learning mode.
We're looking to build a strong online classroom community until it's safe for us to gather together in our school.
Our class motto is 'We never, never, never, never, never give up!' This means we all work together, ask questions, and think hard every day. Our inspiring and inspired students appreciate the generosity of donors who help us obtain the resources we need.
My Project
As I begin my 6th month as a Teach From Home educator, I'm aware of how many of the hands on materials we use in our classroom are tools my virtual learners should have at home. My students have dry erase boards and a single black marker for use in our daily math lessons to share their work.
It would be wonderful to brighten our daily lessons with a handful of colorful dry erase markers and a dry erase hundred chart.
If I had to make a list, I'm sure I could come up with at least 100 ways this simple chart helps students progress from rote (memory) counters to literally knowing numbers backwards and forwards by multiples of 1, 5, 10 and any number they can think of.
