Whiteboards and markers are one of the best ways to keep the attention and focus of sixth graders. Students love to collaborate, share their answers, erase and try again. Our free and reduced lunch rate is almost 50%, so I love to provide students with materials to keep them excited about school.
I teach sixth grade in a K-6 elementary school.
My 27 students are positive and energetic, and they love to work in groups and solve problems together. They really enjoy trying different ways to collaborate and share their answers with the class. They said they would absolutely love having access to individual-sized whiteboards and markers.
My Project
I am requesting a class set of thin dry erase markers and whiteboards. I anticipate using these whiteboard and marker sets at least once a week. Students become automatically engaged when they have a marker, a board, and an eraser. They love having the option to erase mistakes and try again. These boards are excellent for use in any subject area but I especially plan to use them in math and reading. In math, students can use them while collaborating with a partner and completing a rough draft of a problem. In reading, they can use them to make lists or draw special scenes in a story. Perhaps most importantly, they can use them to share their answers without necessarily having to say their thoughts in front of the class. The possibilities are endless!
Donations to this project will make a huge difference for my sixth graders.
My students will become more excited about learning if they have access to whiteboards and markers each week. They will enjoy this method of sharing their answers and working together. I hope these whiteboard sets will help my students work collaboratively and enjoy their time together in school. After all, school should be fun!
