My students come from a variety of backgrounds, mostly low-income families. We are preparing students to be self-motivated, hard-working members of society. They enjoy learning through a variety of activities where they can utilize their new knowledge.
This year, students are exploring math while working in groups.
They are discovering and practicing new concepts. When someone figures out the pattern to a new type of problem, the whole group gets excited.
I am very proud of how far my students have progressed with their ability to successfully work in groups. I believe that making our classroom environment more "group friendly" will motivate them to continue.
My Project
Our classroom has been fortunate to get a variety of flexible seating options to try out for the 2018-2019 school year. We are slowly replacing our traditional desks with tables to gather around for the students to improve their ability to problem solve together.
This project would provide my students with two tables to work on while trying out their new seating options.
One table would be a gathering place for the students who are seated on the wobble stools and the other would be for stable stools. The markerboard surface will allow them to collaborate during their group work using dry erase markers. This will be very useful during review activities.
