My Students

My kindergarten students attend a rural school district and love to move and learn. They are between the ages of four and seven and are very active learners. While we try to incorporate movement throughout the day, many of the students need more stimulation while completing their work.

We all learn differently and need various tools to do so.

Why not give students the opportunity and choice at a young age to decide what tools are best needed to enhance their learning? Developmentally, my students learn best through movement.

My Project

In kindergarten we do a lot of our work gathered on the carpet. Sometimes this close space is overwhelming to students. These mats will allow students to "mark their spot" and help them know that they are safe. Students will be allowed to choose when and if they would like to use the mats. Students with sensory issues won't have to worry about someone sitting too close to them. These mats will help eliminate some of the anxiety they may feel which will allow more room for learning. They will also be able to use them throughout the room during center time.
