My team teacher and I work at a Title I school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Being in a small, rural town home to a prison, our students all have difficult obstacles to overcome in order to be successful academically, socially, and emotionally.
Our 4th graders - despite difficult circumstances in their lives - are vibrant, curious, creative, and bring such a joy to all around them.
They come to school so full of life. We work hard together as our classroom family unit in order to ask deep questions, answer difficult inquiries, and to be good leaders in our school and community.
This trip is for both of our 4th-grade classes. Many of our students have never been able to see the ocean. This will be a great opportunity for them to see marine plant and animal life up close and tie into our science curriculum.
Both classes of students will be able to go on a 2-hour ocean life tour and visit the exhibits and aquarium life at the Hatfield Science Center.
During their tour, students will get to experience a trawl net demonstration, understand water navigation, learn the tools to drive the boat, and see plankton and other sea life up close!
This is truly an opportunity of a lifetime for our students.
