Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students cover the whole spectrum. They are of different ages, ethnicities, religions, talent, countries, languages, wealth, and so many other demographics. Despite their differences, they do have at least one thing in common. They recognize that music and the arts have changed their lives in a positive way and they continue to grow and learn.
Our school is at the highest poverty level in the country.
Nearly all of the students qualify for food assistance. These students are not afraid to work for what they need in life and they inspire me every day.
My Project
This project will help us get some of the last pieces to put together our schools first Mariachi class. Mariachi has been a very frequently requested music style from my students, their parents, and the community around our school. As a teacher it is very important to provide stylistically and culturally responsive curriculum to reach and engage our students. In the past have never had the resources to put the class together. I am so excited to create this project for the same reason. I know that the program will be immensely successful with our students and community.
