My students are the most amazing kiddos! They are bright, energetic, and curious. As budding computer programmers, mathematicians, engineers and scientists, they clamor for more opportunities to engage in computer programming and STEM: science, technology, engineering and math explorations in school and beyond, as well as becoming deep readers who have good listening, comprehension skills.
We are a K to 5th-grade Title I elementary school with 400+ children.
All students receive free breakfast and/or lunch. We are a proactive school with several before and after-school tutoring and community outreach programs. Our students' families struggle financially, but everyone is dedicated to helping our parents provide for their children.
The educators and support staff are amazing for their dedication and determination to make a difference in the lives of our students. Our goal is to give each student the very best education and the best support possible at all times. Nearly 300 Puerto Rican students have enrolled in Orange County schools, including my school, since Hurricane Maria pounded their island home, with hundreds and perhaps thousands more expected. As they come, we will not fail in our mission to embrace them with open arms, and our students share our same passion.
As of now, we have about seven ipads. However, with only a few power outlets, it is tough getting all of them charged back up together.
Having a charging station with multiple USB ports will enable me to charge all of the ipads up at one time; Also having crates will allow me to store 4 class sets of books in few crates in order to keep them organized and prevent losing them.
With incoming new students, some being from Puerto Rico, the ipads will need to be charged more, because they will be shared by more students in the class.
