Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our classroom is from a Title 1 school in South Texas directly hit by Hurricane Harvey. Most of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch and have limited resources for learning at their home. However, that does not stop them from wanting to come to school to learn and explore new ideas.!The majority of our students are from low-income backgrounds and without access to technology and supplies.
My goal is to foster my students interest in hands-on learning and give them the resources they need to extend their imaginations despite their limited circumstances.
My Project
Our students are very enthusiastic about anything they can manipulate and use as a hands-on experience. These items such as the magnetic calendar, base 10 blocks and number line will increase the understanding of diverse learners and allow them to use them to suit their own learning style.
Immersing themselves in real-world experiences using hands-on math tools will enable them to build a strong foundation for future math skills.
Learning in the twenty-first century is hands-on and tactile. These experiences will allow them to take ownership of their own learning while working independently and cooperatively.
