Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
For the 2018 - 2019 school year, I will be heading to fourth grade with my students from third grade. I know that we will need school supplies to last us throughout the entire school year. I am excited to see the changes from third grade to fourth grade with my class. We will be able to build upon the community we have started this year.
I teach in a diverse, urban neighborhood school where many students are not able to provide the necessary school supplies to last throughout the year.
My school is a Title I school and every student receives free breakfast and lunch daily. Many students come from families that cannot provide all the essentials for back to school. To create the best learning environment for my students, it is essential to get supplies into their hands.
My Project
Students in fourth grade are preparing for middle school by learning to organize their classroom materials. Students will use the individual pencil cases to organize their pencils and crayons for completing activities. We use the dry erase markers all the time. They love to challenge each other to write more or complete their math problems on the white boards with the dry erase markers. The book boxes will provide storage for their books during our reading block each day. My students like to take their book boxes to the carpet or move a more comfortable space to read so the quality of the book boxes are so important!
