My students need these instruments so that the band can perform at pep rallies and football games. These snare and bass drums are what put the "march" in marching band!
Do you remember your high school band? I do, and I want my students to share that! We are in our second year of band at our school, and every time we play, more people find out about band and join up. What we would really like, is to be able to play at football games and pep rallies with a marching band!
My students are independent study students who come together in "studio" classes like band for the social engagement and school spirit that high schoolers need.
Each semester, our new band grows and the excitement grows with it. Being a new program at a charter school, we have to build from the ground up. Our students are very resourceful and have made do with a converted drumset for band. We'd like your help in bringing more students together to rally in school spirit!
My Project
The "Caiman Band" has grown from its beginning in 2014 with 3 students to more than triple that size, and with new players, comes the need for more instruments. These drumline instruments that I am requesting, including snare and bass drums, will continue to be used for the marching band and pep band programs for many years. Once a school acquires instruments like drums and low brass, its sustainability soars. With these drums, we can add music to all sorts of school functions for years to come.
A program like band offers an opportunity for students to discover what music can do in their lives, and then real impact begins.
With school-owned instruments, we can offer that opportunity to some that may not be able to afford an instrument on their own. The camaraderie of band is only rivaled by team sports like football, and that isn't for everyone. Thanks for helping to offer that chance to a student searching for the activity that will let them shine.
