I teach twenty kindergarten students all day in a public school in Louisiana. Our classroom needs a circle time place to sit that will continuously reinforce our alphabet. We also need a cd listening center!
HELP! We spend story time, daily calendar math time, morning message time, circle time, and music time sitting as a group on the carpet. After our classroom flooded from Hurricane Katrina we received carpets to sit on which are mismatched, and different sizes. The first 12 children have even spaces but the remaining eight children are sitting in different sized, (smaller) squares. The students can not get their own space and are often on top each other. This is distracting and no one wants to sit in those seats! It also gets really hairy when the five year olds try to dance and participate in music activities. Children are on top of each other! It's almost impossible to "find your own space."
We also have many great stories and books on CD's but nothing to listen to them on. We received a new reading series with all our stories on CD. Yea! However, we do not have a CD listening center. CD's are no good without a CD player!!!! We need a CD listening station so the students can listen to stories on CD during learning center time on the much needed carpet!
If I an alphabet activity carpet is purchased, I will have 26 individual squares! Each child will have their own evenly spaced, same sized square. Each square has a letter on it with a corresponding picture for that letter. Our curriculum is based of alphabet and letter/sound recognition. Imagine how much my kindergarteners could learn if they are each sitting on a different letter and picture several times a day. Letters and their sounds will be incorporated into our every day routines!
If the cd listening center and 8 station junction box is purchased, children can sit on their alphabet rug and listen to CD's in their CD listening center and headphone junction box. All of the wonderful stories can come to life instead of sitting on a shelf!
You will make a difference in my five year old students' lives but incorporating the alphabet into their daily routines, and by bringing the magic of story books to life! You will also foster classroom peace and positive behavior through better classroom management! (No more fighting over spots!!!!)
