Playing instruments, exploring movements to music, learning music theory through games, singing lots of songs, experiencing music in every possible way - this is why I love to teach music!
My students are between 5 and 11 years old.
They are curious, energetic, engaged, music-loving, inquisitive, smart, courageous, interested children who are like little sponges. I am grateful that our school is very supportive of our active music program.
My Project
March is Reading Month, but my music classroom is missing a small music library. There are so many wonderful books out there that teach about music in many different ways. We are looking for books about different music styles, various composers, books that introduce young students to music theory concepts in a playful way. Some of the books are ideal to be orchestrated with classroom instruments or some books can be sung! Other books have beautiful artwork that goes hand in hand with the beautiful music. I believe that music books are a wonderful way to get students excited about reading.
Many students come from families where they are not introduced to a big variety of music styles.
I want to inspire my students to be open-minded towards all kinds of music, be this Opera, Jazz, Bluegrass, or Classical. I wish that they can get to know the famous masterpieces of music, and why not do that through books? My goal is for my students to deepen their love for reading and their love for music by Empowering Students Through Art.
