I share my day with a room of fourth graders who love to giggle and play on the playground, are eager to share their ideas and snacks, and are enthusiastic to learn more about the world around them.
We love to learn all the things!
We are huge fans of reading picture books, chapter books, graphic novels and everything in between. We love math - we enjoy number puzzles, being word problem detectives, and sharing our strategies and ideas. Solving scientific phenomenon is one of our favorite activities. We love asking the 'why' questions about the things we observe. We love to engage in conversations and investigations about the world around us, today and in the past, and learning about the change agents all around us. We shine when it comes to expressing our creativity in art and music and love connecting our learnings across content areas. And my goodness, do we love to get outside and move - a spirited game of blob tag, and teamwork challenges are a few of our most favorite outside activities.
My Project
This spring our school will participate in a book bracket competition - pitting sixteen picture books against one another to determine the school favorite! Classes will read a total of sixteen books, and students will vote on which title they like best in each match up.
Across grade levels, students will grow in their love for books as teachers model the fluent reading of high level text and classes engage in meaningful mini lessons focused on theme, writing craft, and reading skills.
This project will encourage literacy and create community that spans across individual classrooms and even grade bands. Students will engage in meaningful conversations about books with not only their classmates, but also the kindergartener sitting near them at lunch. We are excited to celebrate reading together!
