Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is in a multicultural, military town. We consistently perform near the top in our district of 45+ elementary schools.
My class is a learning team of 31 unique, eager, intelligent, full-of-life children that come from all different cultural and economic backgrounds.
We are English learners that speak Spanish, Tagalog, & Korean. We are from military families & immigrant families. We are gifted and special needs learners: but most of all, we are a team that celebrates, supports, & lifts each other up.
My Project
Through our school wide focus of literacy, I am fostering a lifelong love of learning and reading. I want my students to be voracious readers & learners and to that goal, I try to find unique ways to motivate them to read. In addition, many of my students do love to read and are constantly searching for that next story to love. Participating in the March Book Madness event will combine the excitement of sports playoffs with the excitement of finding and sharing a great book with friends!
The March Book Madness books are the perfect way to give my class brand new reasons to read.
March Book Madness is a book competition played bracket-style like the NCAA Basketball tournaments in March. We will vote online weekly and the final book champion will be announced near when the NCAA basketball championship game is played.
Funding of this project will give them access to high quality, award-winning books that they've probably never heard of or read before.
